Because of some smell from the gas, the old man wanted to buy some new rubber for the fillerneck. Lets hope this will help. Any old bug smells gas and oil, but not the way this car does?

This is the owner of this solid family-treasure. The car runs great and it always put a smile in the face on the driver. A Blaupunkt FM radio is soon in place so he can listen to NRK P1 anytime.

Back from BugRun 2008

Rumors says that the latelooker soon will be on the road again. A new engine is in place and it`s startet. Tuning will be tomorrow, and the first trip with new engine will be this weekend. Go dad! PS. The rearlights is changed to red/white for a better look. The rear weels is also changed to 5,5" OG wheels. The car has got some other minor changes as well, but you can hear about them later.

I got this NOS coinholder from Singapore. It works great for both "1 kroner and 10 kroner". It is a magnet behind it, and can be mountet on the dash. Now dad always will have money for parking.

I got this nice clips for securing the washfluid-bootle in the spare-tire. They are small, in plastic and can easily be broken.

I have this set of NOS H4 Hella lamps for dads car. They are still laying on the shelf until some day he want to put them on. This set is market VW and comes with instructions. I found them in a antiqueshop in Lillehammer (OL 94) this summer.

It has not been so much driving with the Savannah this summer, but here it is out for a some fresh air. We tryed lowered splindler, but without luck. I think that 5,5" and 4,5" looks great anyway.

The seventymodel will have a new engine in summer 09. My dad is almost finished with it. All the thin is powdercoated. All the bolts is made black in a 3-base-project. Very cool. The manifold is paintet with special paint from Gasoline in Norway.

Yesterday my dad took home his "late-bug". The road was very bad (ice and snow) and he had an exciting trip with the bug on the trailer.

Radionette Kurer bracket for car

In Norway it is a lot of cool period radios. This radio my dad used in his young days. The spesial radio bracket come with my 23 window samba. The plan is to mount this in his 70-model. You can plug the car-antanna into this radio, or you can take it out and with you.

This radios comes in many different colours. I use my red one in the kitchen.

The painter had some bad days at work

After a long while the car got back from the painter. The result could get much better, but ok for this time. This saturday I helped him with mounting parts. It is fun on a clean car!

The Sprintstar wheels is sanblasted and powdercoated. After that SplitBoy got them for finishing with two colours. He did an very nice job! Here you can see the result!

HotShop sold him some parts. But most of the parts is from the veteranentreffen in Bad Camberg and Wolfsburg West.

Restauration

Every spring the last 6-7 years my dad was beginning speaking of restoring the 1300 bug. I always said that it was to boring and not old enough. I also said that it will be bether to find one in driving condition. He was seriously looking a little period. But he found out that it was so many bad beetles out there.

So this late summer the bug came to Mysen for the first time since 1990.

Dad and his two boys did not come to agreement. So my dad started welding up the car, bought new parts from HotShop and stored it away with a solid layer of Tectyl. The brakes was all new and good. So was also the engine. It is overhauled by a teacher in mecanic in Østfold. It was a very serious and good job.

1970 model Savannah daily driver

Mum and dad bought this good running car in Mysen in the mid eighties. It was meant as a "second car". The car was sold new at Erling Rød (the local VW/Audi store) in Askim. A man in Trøgstad become the first owner. We used it until the start of the 1990`s. At that time HotShop was the biggest VW-beetle warehouse. They had an great happening every year; BugIn at Sandstangen in Trøgstad. You can read more about BugIn. My dream was to paint our beetle grey-metallic with some cool wheels and so on. My dad did not agree. My neighbour run a company; Nor Kit Cars and sold American roadsters and Porsche Speedster replicas. As you can imagine, we had a lot of choices what to do with the "half-old" VW.

After a couple of beetles he also had a Variant. My mother did not like it at all. Me and my broter was sitting/laying in the backseat. Safety? No one was thinking about that. This Variant was smashed by the snowplough, but fixed again and paintet. The paintjob was done by the same man who did paint my oval57!

The shell has come out of the paintbox and we are waiting for some details. We know the list of NOS parts is extencive, and some juicy bits are waiting to be mounted on the car.... we want more..

New competition

Mr. Solberg senior has been helpful to the Outlavws boys and thought them a trick or two when it comes to welding and tool skills in general. Now the teaching has taken a new turn, and the "old man" was ready to take on a restoration project of his own. The stored away family wagon, a 70 Savannah beige Type 1, has seen the light of day again. Torn down to molecules and sent away for blasting, powdercoating and perfect bodywork, we are just waiting for the first pictures. The rumors says the car should be out of the paintbox any day now... Competition is on =)
